The clock is ticking. From 2026, only starting substances listed on the new European Positive Lists may be used in the manufacture of PVC pipes and fittings for drinking water.

These EU-wide lists—introduced under the updated Drinking Water Directive (DWD) (2020/2184)—mark a major shift from national approvals to centralised, harmonised authorisation across the EU.

That means everyone in the value chain—suppliers, compounders, converters, and manufacturers—must act:

  • Check your starting substances now
  • Prepare your Notification of Intention in IUCLID (2025)
  • Follow up with your full DWD Application (2026)

Missing these steps may cost you the right to supply or use key substances in drinking water applications after the transition period.
