PVC VALVE CHECKS THE BACKFLOW

on .

When pressure fails or is reduced in a pipe network as may happen if a pipeline bursts or freezes up, the resulting backflow may expose the system to unfortunate consequences such as contamination. However, a PVC-U wafer check valve has now been introduced by Praher Valves that will prevent such an occurrence. Once installed between two flanges in a pipeline, it ensures that fluids can pass in the direction of flow, but prevents backflow of fluids by closing of a neatly designed flap.

PVC4Pipes Launch Multimedia Presentation

PVC4Pipes has produced a short multimedia presentation that delivers 10 key reasons for choosing PVC for the piping industry.  Entitled: "PVC Pipes - Lifelines For a New Age" the four minute clip communicates the major benefits of PVC pipe systems derived from many years of solid experience and the latest scientific evidence.

Steve Tan, spokesman for PVC4Pipes, is convinced that these various messages will resonate with stakeholders from the industry: "World market demand for our pipe systems is continuously expanding to embrace a global supply chain currently worth over USD 250 billion.  While our pipelines transport their contents silently below ground, we are determined to voice the durable nature of their performance above ground.  Customers and users alike expect timely and accurate information."

Conference Spotlight on PVC4Pipes and 25 Years of Recycling

As many as eighteen papers (see list below) dealing with the commercial and technical aspects of PVC pipe systems were delivered at the recent Plastic Pipes XVII Conference and exhibition in Chicago. Subject matter varied from the molecular to the ‘spectacular’ with in-depth analysis of PVC raw material and additives, breakthroughs in pipe design and installation methods, upward market trends for PVC-O pipe systems as well as recent findings in the sustainable nature of PVC pipe materials compared to non-plastic pipe systems. Furthermore, the Chicago conference marked the 25th anniversary of recycling PVC pipes and fittings.

Double Digit Growth Expected in Global Plastic Pipe Market

Four major factors will lead to double digit growth in the global demand for plastic pipe systems over the next ten years.  Speaking at the recent Plastic Pipes XVII conference and exhibition in Chicago, Stephen Boros, the Chairman of the event's organizing committee, identified these developments that are changing the world outlook for his industry.

"The development of the shale oil and gas industry, regional market expansion, innovation and awareness in the field of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are now favorably influencing the scale and scope of the industry's future", he stated.

Stephen Boros who is also VP Engineering for Pipelines Plastics, LLC explained that plastic pipe systems continue to gain market share through supplanting competing pipe materials such as copper, concrete and steel due to easy and low cost installation as well as long term performance.  "In North America, these inherent advantages are now further supported by the development of the shale oil and gas industry.  This development not only benefits the energy market but also represents a more secure long-term supply and cost advantage from a power costs to raw materials stand point.  Technology transfer will undoubtedly propel the growth of demand for plastic pipe systems in other world markets".

Building Materials: Top Score for PVC Pipe Systems

Building Materials: Top Score for PVC Pipe Systems

"For building purposes, those PVC pipe systems that are made with a component of recycled material are more likely to have the lowest environmental impact in terms of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)."  This according to Professor Michiel Haas who is an expert on building materials and founder of NIBE, the Dutch technical institute for environmental impact of building materials.

Seven years ago, the NIBE launched its system that undertakes rigorous environmental (LCA) assessments of a wide variety of building materials used in the  Netherlands.  If the building material meets a challenging threshold in terms of seventeen LCA criteria, it is awarded a quality label (DUBOkeur).  Over 500 types of building products have already been assessed.

Category one for all PVC pipe systems

"When it comes to building materials and their sustainability, PVC pipe systems have a lot going for them," explains Professor Haas.  "So far, we have assessed rainwater downpipes, gutters and sewer pipes within the building environment.  All PVC pipe systems within these applications have been rated category 'one' - out of a range of one to seven.  Category seven would be absolutely unacceptable and include for example, 'wild cut' tropical woods." .....
